Zelenskyy has proposed First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko as the new prime minister.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmyhal has submitted his resignation. Shmyhal was the longest-serving head of government at over five years.

Zelenskiy had previously nominated First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko as the country’s new prime minister.

Resignation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. On July 15, 2025, it was reported that Shmyhal submitted a letter resigning from his post as prime minister, and that his resignation will be voted on by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, on July 16.

This development comes as part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plans to restructure the government.

Zelenskyy has proposed First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko as the new prime minister.

It’s also being reported that Shmyhal may be appointed to the post of Minister of Defense, with current Defense Minister Rustem Umerov slated to serve as ambassador to the United States.

These changes are seen as part of Ukraine’s efforts to revitalize and strengthen its economic and defense sectors amidst wartime conditions. Parliament plans to vote on the appointment of a new cabinet on July 17.
