A team of Israeli negotiators will travel to Qatar on Sunday, July 6, for indirect talks aimed at freeing Gaza hostages and reaching a ceasefire agreement, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing Hamas’ latest demands as “unacceptable” in a statement Saturday evening.

“The changes Hamas wants to make to the Qatar offer were conveyed to us last night and are unacceptable to Israel,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. However, “after assessing the situation,” Benjamin Netanyahu “instructed us to respond to the invitation for indirect talks and continue efforts to free our hostages on the basis of the Qatar offer, which Israel has accepted,” it added, adding that “the negotiating team will travel to Qatar tomorrow (Sunday) for talks.”

The Israeli government claims that Hamas is trying to make changes to the Qatar proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, arguing that these are unacceptable.

Israel considers the changes Hamas requested in the ceasefire proposal as “unacceptable” and says it is continuing negotiations.
