Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has stated that he is open to dialogue with the US following the 12-day war with Israel in 2025.

However, he took a cautious approach in these statements, emphasizing that he has trust issues, especially due to the US’s support for Israel’s attacks and the US bombardments of nuclear facilities.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said he believes Tehran can resolve its differences with the United States through dialogue, but trust would be an issue after US and Israeli attacks on his country.

“I am of the belief that we could very much easily resolve our differences and conflicts with the United States through dialogue and talks,” Pezeshkian told US right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson in an interview conducted on Saturday and released on Monday.

Pezeshkian argued in an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had overturned the negotiation table and that the US was supporting Israel in violation of international law.

He also stated that Iran’s nuclear program was for civilian purposes and that the production of nuclear weapons was prohibited by religious leader Ali Khamenei’s fatwa. Pezeshkian stated that it was possible to resume negotiations, but that it was difficult to trust the US again.

These statements came after the clashes that began on June 13, 2025 and escalated with Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The clashes intensified when the US struck Iran’s Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities with B-2 bombers on June 22.

The ceasefire was brokered by the US on June 24, and Pezeshkian stated that Iran would comply if Israel did not violate the ceasefire.

Pezeshkian’s message of openness to dialogue can be interpreted as an effort to create a basis for reviving negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

The loss of trust in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the US’s military interventions have created reservations in Tehran’s approach to diplomacy.
