Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an agreement with the Council of Europe on Wednesday, June 25, to establish a special court to prosecute and try those responsible for the “crime of aggression against Ukraine.”

“This signature is a decisive step towards establishing a special court for the crime of aggression against Ukraine,” said European Council President Alain Berset. The Council of Europe is the body that oversees human rights on the continent, including in Ukraine.

This was announced by Andriy Sybiha, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine. The court will be assigned to violate Russia’s senior leadership and the offense of aggression against Ukraine by violating the UN Charter.

Hungary, Serbia and Türkiye voted against the establishment of the court.

Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia were abstained in the vote. A total of 40 countries voted in favor.
