United States President Donald Trump announced a diplomatic visit to Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan on Wednesday (local time), highlighting a key meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
Trump also announced that he had canceled a planned summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing a lack of progress in diplomatic efforts. “It didn’t seem right to me,” Trump said, adding that he didn’t want a “wasted meeting.”
Trump said, “Next week, we will be traveling to Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan. I will be meeting with President Xi Jinping of China in South Korea. We are planning a very long meeting. We can resolve many of our questions, concerns, and our vast assets together… We canceled the meeting with President Putin. It didn’t feel right to me. I didn’t feel we were going to get where we needed to go, so I canceled it…”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt officially announced today (October 23, 2025) that US President Donald Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea on Thursday, October 30, as part of his Asia tour. This meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and will be Trump’s first face-to-face meeting with Xi during his second term.
