Typhoon Ragasa: Levee breach in Taiwan kills at least 14
Taiwan announced that at least 14 people have been killed, 18 injured, and 124 missing after a landslide destroyed a natural river dam.
Typphoon Ragasa brought heavy rain to the east of the island, killing 14 and leaving 124 missing, authorities said Wednesday.
A dam overflowing in Hualien County on the east coast caused flooding in downstream areas, prompting emergency calls from residents.
The dam area is expected to receive 600-700 millimeters of rain over the four days leading up to Thursday.
The 18th typhoon of the season is moving south of the island, injuring 28 people in Taiwan. The typhoon failed to reach land.
