The Israeli army: We will continue to enforce the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and will respond to any violation with excessive force.
The Israeli army says it has “returned to the ceasefire in Gaza following Hamas’s violation of the ceasefire.”
The Israeli army says it has reinstated the ceasefire following directives from the political level.
This morning, Israel bombed Rafah and other locations in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least 20 people. Since the agreement was signed, the country has violated the ceasefire 47 times, with eleven people killed on Saturday alone.
According to the Israeli army, the Israeli Air Force bombed Rafah and Jabaliya in the southern Gaza Strip this morning despite the ceasefire in Gaza. The army reported the deaths of two of its soldiers. At least 20 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli intervention, the largest crisis since the fragile ceasefire was signed.
This is not the first time Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement, as it has violated it 47 times this week: on Saturday, it bombed a bus, killing eleven civilians. While the Rafah crossing remains closed, a total of 38 people, including several children, have been killed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered “strong action” against “terrorist targets” in Gaza on Sunday. The army confirmed that it launched these strikes early this afternoon against “dozens” of targets in southern Gaza. Then, just after 9:00 PM in Jerusalem, the Israel Defense Forces released a statement reimposing the ceasefire and said they “will continue to comply with the ceasefire agreement and resolutely respond to any violations.”
This morning, Netanyahu accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire and met with the defense minister and several Israeli security officials after it continued to block the crossing while ordering an attack on Rafah.
The Israeli government also ordered the Israel Defense Forces to block all humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip “until further notice.” According to Haaretz, this decision came after Prime Minister Netanyahu accepted the Israeli Chief of Staff’s recommendation to halt the flow of humanitarian aid following Israel’s accusations that Hamas was violating the ceasefire.
