Culture Minister Rachida Dati announced on X that a “robbery” took place at the opening of the Louvre Museum on Sunday morning, October 18. Visitors were evacuated. The museum announced that it was closed “for exceptional reasons.”
“A robbery took place this morning at the opening of the Louvre Museum. No injuries reported. I am at the scene with museum staff and the police. The investigation is ongoing,” Rachida Dati wrote on her X account on Sunday. The team contacted by AFP indicated that one or more criminals entered the museum but did not indicate a possible theft of artworks. The museum could not immediately be reached for comment.
