According to an Anadolu Agency reporter, the Israeli air force airstrike on a journalists’ tent near Shifa Hospital in Gaza killed Al Jazeera reporters Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Kirika.
According to officials at Shifa Hospital in Gaza, the Israeli army targeted a journalists’ tent near the hospital.
The attack killed Al Jazeera reporters Enes al-Sharif, considered the most influential journalist working in Gaza, and Mohammed Qurayka, along with three cameramen.
The Israeli army confirmed the killing of Anas al-Sharif.
Statement from Al Jazeera:
- We condemn the premeditated killing of our reporters Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqea, and our photographers Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal.
- The killing of our reporters by Israeli occupation forces is a new and blatant attack on press freedom.
- The journalist killers, as the Israeli army acknowledged in its statement, targeted the Al Jazeera journalists’ tent at the al-Shifa complex.
The attack on the Al Jazeera reporters occurred amid a horrific humanitarian disaster caused by Israeli aggression, which has resulted in massacres.
The statement claimed that Sharif was targeted because he “served as a cell leader within Hamas and planned rocket attacks on Israel.”
Al Jazeera Media Network recently accused the Israeli army of waging a “campaign of incitement” against its reporters in the Gaza Strip, particularly al-Sharif.
In July, Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee reshared a video on social media accusing al-Sharif of being a member of Hamas’s military wing, a claim that has been vehemently denied as false.
Since launching its war on Gaza in October 2023, Israel has regularly accused Palestinian journalists in Gaza of being members of Hamas, an accusation that rights groups say is an attempt to discredit their reporting of Israeli violations.
The Israeli army has killed more than 200 reporters and media workers since the bombardment began, including several Al Jazeera reporters and their relatives.
